Before the Blog is a weekly blog meme hosted by Karis Jacobstein over @ YA Litwit. It’s an opportunity to showcase books a blogger read and loved prior to starting their blog . I love this idea because there are so many amazing books I haven’t reviewed on A Novel Glimpse because I read them a long time ago. The only rules to this meme are to answer the following questions about the book chosen to review:
- Why did you choose this book?
- When did you read this book?
- Who would you recommend this book to?
Publication Date: September 23, 2014
The Walker family has returned to their childhood home after their estranged father dies. They’re not the only ones in the house, though. There are ghosts living in the house, too. All of the inhabitants of the house must come to terms with painful truths.
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Why did you choose this book?
Well, I don’t have an “O” author on my A-Z List yet…While that’s true, I wanted to spotlight Rooms because I really enjoyed it. I know that’s not the case for many readers. This is Ms. Oliver’s first adult book and it’s very different from anything she’s written. I hadn’t read any of her other books except Panic, so I didn’t get why some didn’t enjoy it. After reading Before I Fall, I guess I can see it. I still think this book deserves a fair chance. I found it fresh and interesting.
When did you read this book?
I borrowed a copy of Rooms from my local library in November of 2014.
Who would you recommend this book to?
Well for starters, I would say not to her YA readers. It really is an adult book with sex, violence and mature thoughts and feelings. Adult readers who like quirky books with dark themes and unlikable characters will enjoy this one.
