The Book Sacrifice Tag

Thank you to Joey @ Thoughts and Afterthoughts  for tagging me for The Book Sacrifice Tag. If haven’t yet, you need to check out his blog. I love reading it and I bet you would, too!

I used to have a problem with getting rid of books. I was kind of a book hoarder. But then my shelves started overflowing and my husband bought me a Kindle for one birthday. He was tired of seeing the piles. I started selling my non-favorites to a used book store and used the money to buy new e-books. 🙂 So, I wouldn’t have problems following through on the book sacrifices I’ve listed.

1. An Over-Hyped Book:

Situation: You’re in a store when the zombie apocalypse hits. The military informs everyone that over-hyped books are the zombies only weakness. What book that everyone else says is amazing but you disliked do you start chucking at the zombies?

I didn’t hate The Girl on the Train, but I definitely did not love it. It was WAY over-hyped. It was not the “next Gone Girl“. It was slow and the main character was so annoying. It would make a great zombie defense mechanism.

2. A Sequel:

Situation: torrential downpour. What sequel are you willing to use as an umbrella to protect yourself?

I feel like my time would have been better spent using Allegiant as an umbrella in one of Seattle’s downpours than reading it.

3. A Classic:

Situation: You’re in English class and your professor raves about a Classic that “transcends time”. If given the opportunity to travel back in time, which Classic would you try to stop from ever publishing?

On the Genealogy of Morals

Honestly, I’m horrible with choosing anything classic. I don’t read many. I do remember reading a bunch of them in a Humanities class in college. One of them was by Nietzsche. I’ll just go with it. It was pretty boring.

4. A Least Favorite Book:

Situation: apparently global warming = suddenly frozen wasteland. Your only hope of survival for warmth is to burn a book. Which book will you not regret lighting?

Brilliant: The Evolution of Artificial Light

A book about the evolution of artificial light should put off more heat, right? I would have no problem burning this book. It had a lot of interesting information, but it made my worst college textbook the most exciting read of the century.

WWW Wednesday: March 2, 2016

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at Should be Reading but is now hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

So here we go…

Currently reading:

I had to set Screwdrivered down because I had some books I had to read before I could finish it. I really like it so far, so hopefully I can pick it back up in a couple of weeks.

I just started a buddy read of Forbidden last night.

Recently finished:

The three of these books were ARCs I had requested previously. I needed to get them read and reviewed right away. You’ll be seeing posts for them in the next week or so. 🙂

Reading Next:

28432783If You Can't Take the Heat19542841Kissed by a Cowboy

I’m kind of freaking out right now! My TBR list has gotten a little out of hand. I didn’t get in as much reading as I thought I would last week. I was super busy and now I feel behind. After I finish Forbidden, I need to start another buddy read for More Happy Than Not.

When I’m done with those two, I really need to read Sex Lies and Fruit Flies because I told the author I would read it. I didn’t get to it as fast as I thought I would. I also need to read Kissed By a Cowboy and If You Can’t Take the Heat because I won them from Goodreads.

The stress of it all! 😉

What are you reading next?

The Alphabet Book Tag

I was tagged by Jesse @ Books at Dawn for The Alphabet Book Tag. If you haven’t checked out his blog, you should. It’s a lot of fun to read. Thanks, Jesse!

The Rules:

Pick a book that is on your shelf or one that you have read in the past and fill out each letter of the Alphabet. The idea is to use books that you have either read or that are on your TBR list.

The books that are underlined are books that I have read and the rest are books that are on my TBR. I tried to pick books that I love and enjoyed that I haven’t talked about much on my blog or TBR books that I am dying to pick up soon.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

So here we go…

Currently reading:

Screwdrivered is the third book in Alice Clayton’s Cocktails series. I read the first two and had to read this one because the main character, Viv, seems like a lot of fun. She hasn’t disappointed me so far! 🙂

Recently finished:

Once again, it looks like I read a ton this week. Three of these books are short novellas, though. I had a lot of time to read this weekend, surprisingly. My daughter had a birthday party where they watched a movie, so I read during that. Then on Sunday, I got stuck at home with my broke back dog. Seriously, if she could stop hurting herself that would be awesome. I basically had to sit with her on the bed all day because she was in pain, on heavy painkillers and flipping out if I left her. So not fun. At least I got to read.

You can find the review for the time travel romance Come Back to Me here, the short horror story The Grownup here, the suspenseful New Adult romance Combative here and the first part of the sweet second chance romance Dancing on a Moonbeam: Part 1 here. The Dancing on a Moonbeam: Part 2 review will post today. All of the rest of the reviews to come in the next week or so!

Reading Next:

I just got my hands on an e-Arc of Sweet Little Lies from one of my favorite authors, Jill Shalvis. I can’t wait to start it! I’m also going to be reading Sex Lies & Fruit Flies. This should be a fun week!

What are you reading next?

It started with a drink.

It turned into a promise.

Ransom Scott lost his heart the day the woman he loved chose another man. Or so he thought. Estranged from his brother, distancing himself from the world, he’s been drowning his sorrows in cheap booze and women…determined to forget.

His world is falling apart, until a beautiful woman decides to take a chance on him.

Dani Deviche is as bewitching as she is innocent. Full of youth and vitality, she captivates him. Challenges him. She’s everything Ransom never thought to look for in the opposite sex, and he can’t get enough.

When a promise of friendship turns into something more, can Ransom fulfill his end of the bargain, or will a secret from Dani’s past destroy his last chance at happiness?

**Author’s Note** This book was written as a compliment to the Forbidden Trilogy. However, it can be read as a standalone.

FV Teaser 2

DANI COULDN’T CATCH HER breath. Ransom was insatiable, devouring her mouth like a man starved. She curled her arms around his neck, throwing herself into his dark kiss, exhilarated by his need for her, and hers for him.

Of the few boyfriends she’d had, none had affected her like this man—a near stranger. Someone who was, as far as she could tell, damaged. And not an average, run-of-the-mill kind of damage that nearly everyone in the world experienced.

This was soul-deep. His heart hadn’t just broken. It’d been shattered. And it was obvious to her that he was desperately searching for something to numb the pain. Help him forget. He’d chosen booze, and because of her own past demons, she hated it. Which was why, when he’d confessed his affliction, she’d drawn a line, putting an end to his self-abuse.

Her need to help, to fix, was in full-effect. Her ex always said it was her worst quality. Told her on numerous occasions that she was a fool for caring so much. That it would be her downfall.

Maybe she was and maybe it would be, but at least she would know that, in whatever small way, she’d helped.

And even if Ransom didn’t know it yet, he needed her.

But maybe not in the capacity he was currently aiming for.

As much as Dani loved the feel of his mouth on hers, his tongue dipping and diving into every unchecked corner, stoking a fire inside that threatened to blaze out of control, she knew if she allowed this to continue, she’d be taking advantage.

“Ransom.” With regret, she broke the sensational kiss, determined to end this before it went too far, but Ransom only detoured, licking and nibbling a path down the side of her neck that made her shiver.

“You taste so good,” he murmured against her heated skin. “So sweet. And you smell like heaven.”

Obsession, actually. She’d picked up a bottle on clearance following the holidays…What the hell was she going on about? She needed to put an end to this madness before it got out of control. And with the way her body was responding to his every touch and caress, that moment was fast approaching.

Tunneling her fingers through his hair, Dani formed a tight grip, intending to pull him away, only to hold him closer as his warm, wet mouth found the top of her breast. The way he lavished her body with attention, feasting on every inch of her flesh with an almost feral passion, was addictive. Dani had never had a man react to her that way. It was as if he couldn’t get enough. His hands gripped her hard, one around her hip, the other her right butt cheek. His mouth skated across her cleavage, worshiping her as he forged a path toward her hardened nipples. And his body—hard in all the right places—pinned her in place, demanding fealty that she was tempted to give.

Her back hit a wall, rattling a painting, and his knee wedged between her thighs. Heat seared her, clenching her core, and Dani moaned. As his hand left the curve of her ass and slipped around her thigh, her head began to lighten, her thoughts growing foggy.

The only noise between them was that of heavy breathing and the soft lapping of his tongue. When she felt his fingers pass over the top of her thigh and sweep up the center, painting a vivid picture of what he planned to do to her, she clenched her eyes shut and hated herself for what she was about to do.

FV Teaser 5

4 / 5 Stars

I was excited to learn J.C. Valentine was writing Ransom’s story. The poor guy lost the woman of his dreams and I was curious to find out what happened to him afterward.

Luckily, Ransom got a very cute ending with Dani Deviche. She was young, smart and sweet. Their chemistry was amazing. They definitely burnt up the sheets when they were together! It was so much fun to read.

The only thing that kept me from rating Forbidden Valentine 5 stars was Dani’s secret. I don’t know why she kept it a secret. I didn’t think it was that big of a deal. Ransom sure did, though. I thought he overreacted. Otherwise, I loved the book.

Forbidden Valentine is the fourth book in the Forbidden series, but can be read as a stand alone novel. There are some secrets from the first three books included in Forbidden Valentine, in case you’re interested in reading the entire series. I would highly suggest reading the entire series. It’s fun, steamy and has some great twists and turns.

**I received an electronic ARC of Forbidden Valentine from IndieSage PR in exchange for an honest review.
