SYNOPSIS

RIGGS

Heart.

It’s what keeps you from being reckless. It’s what keeps you breathing.

Money, power and respect… they were my god given right, not the reason I joined the Satan’s Knights. I tied myself to my club and nothing else. Give me my bike, the open road and a different woman every night and I was happy.

My life was great.

Until the chaos exploded.

One night.

One reckless temptation and I finally found my reason for breathing.

I never saw her coming. The girl that would turn my world upside down and give me my heart.

Only it was too late.

One mistake can take it all away.

I’m about to lose my heart.

The thing that keeps me breathing.

The thing that keeps me from being reckless.

LAUREN BIANCI

Drop out of nursing school? Check.

Have no idea what you’re going to do with your life? Check.

Disappoint your family? Double check.

Meet a biker and have crazy sex against a wall? Check. Check. Check.

Get knocked up by said biker? Check.

I was always the good girl, the prodigal child, the girl who said and did all the right things.

Things like this didn’t happen to me.

Until him.

Until he smiled.

Until he tempted me to find out what made me happy.

Too bad it’s him.

We’ll never work, but, I can pretend can’t I?

Just for a little while.

Just until it’s over.

EXCERPT

PATCH PARTY

Lauren rolled her eyes and turned to leave. I wasn’t going to let her go anywhere. I reached for her and caught her wrist, stopping her from leaving.

“Going somewhere?”

“Yeah, home,” she sneered, tugging her arm free. I’d never seen her like this, so angry, so fucking hot. She turned toward Blackie, took his drink from his hand and threw the whiskey in my face before handing the empty glass back to him.

“Congratulations, you’re a dick with a patch,” she said, before turning and walking toward the door.

I sputtered whiskey from my mouth, lifting the hem of my t-shirt to dry my face, trying to ignore the surrounding chuckles.

“You better marry her because if you don’t I will,” Bones said, as he came up beside me and handed me a stack of napkins.

“Fuck off,” I shouted, throwing the napkins up in the air like confetti before I took off after her. “Lauren,” I shouted as I stepped outside. Scanning the grounds, I found her stalking through the parking lot.

I ran after her but Kitten had speed even in those heels she had on that threatened to take her down.

“Lauren, baby…Kitten,” I called.

She froze in her tracks and turned around.

Hallelujah!

Oh, shit!

She bent down, removing one of her high heels and swung it like a Cy-Young pitcher, aiming straight for my head.

“Are you fucking crazy?” I shouted, dodging death by a high heel.

“Oh, you think I’m crazy?” She asked incredulously, looking every bit crazy. No question about it. “Maybe I am crazy! I mean, I must be because I’m here, right? Standing here in my little black dress, against my better judgement, because well, tonight was a big night for you and I…” she let her words trail off. “…I am crazy,” she confirmed, shaking her head in disbelief.

“Kitten,” I started, reaching for her.

She flicked my forehead with her fingers.

“Ouch! What the hell did you do that for?” I shouted, rubbing my forehead.

“There is plenty more where that came from, buddy!” She threatened, as she poked my chest with her finger. I had had enough of this shit. I grabbed her hips, hauling her up against me and maneuvered her legs to wrap around my waist. She didn’t like that at all and yelped as I held her in place.

“Riggs, put me down,” she yelled.

“You don’t really want me to put you down,” I ground out. My patience was gone, my nerves frayed. She kicked my back and I pinched her leg as I turned and slammed her up against the wall of the Dog Pound.

“Came here for a reason, Kitten, now it’s time to tell me what that reason is,” I whispered against her ear.

“It doesn’t matter,” she squealed, as I ran my hands up her thighs.

“I disagree,” I argued, glancing down at her legs locked around my waist. “I like your dress,” I said, sliding my hands underneath it.

“You should,” she sneered, wrapping her arms around my neck. “I wore it for you,” she rasped.

Sweetest fucking words I ever heard.

REVIEW

4.5 / 5 Stars

Wow. Reckless Temptations had me on the edge the entire time I was reading it. I felt like I was watching a spin-off of Sons of Anarchy the entire time I was reading Reckless Temptations! It was crazy!

Reckless Temptations wasn’t just another biker romance. While the romance was sweet, there was so much more going on. There was problems with rival gangs, club dealings and more. It was so intense! I was reading it while waiting for a doctor’s appointment and my blood pressure was actually higher than normal because I was so stressed by what was going on in the story!

The characters in the story were great. I loved Riggs and Lauren. Riggs was this motorcycle gang prospect who is willing to do anything it takes to get his patch. Not only is he handsome as hell and cocky, he’s got a crazy sense of humor. His plan is to ride for life. He doesn’t need anyone except his “brothers”.

Then, there’s Lauren. She’s the girl next door. She’s sweet, innocent and feisty. Lauren’s everything Riggs would want in a girl — if he wanted a girl. Of course, he doesn’t think he needs an “old lady”. It was fun watching Lauren convince him otherwise.

I also loved all of the Biancis and their funny antics. Lauren’s mom was my favorite. She was perfect for this story! Oh, and I can’t Riggs’ “brothers”. I especially loved Bones. He knew exactly what Riggs needed.

My favorite thing about Reckless Temptations was how the story unfolded. I have to admit, I wasn’t so sure I was going to like it after the Prologue. It made me worried for the characters before they even met! But I didn’t need to worry. It may have been super intense and suspenseful, but it was also a lot of fun. I would highly suggest it to readers who like a romance with a lot of intensity and don’t mind violence.

It’s said that your life flashes before your eyes when you die.
It must only happen to those whose lives were worthy.
Clearly, mine was not.
The only thing that happened to me was a repeat of what I thought was my death.
The blast of the gun as it went off.
The loss of my breath as two hundred pounds of dead weight dropped on top of me.
And then darkness.
This replayed over and over.
When the guy squatted down next to me and asked if I was hurt, the only thing I could see, feel,
hear, were those few seconds.
Even now, as I sat in the back of a blacked out van—it was the only thing that ran through my mind.
Gunshot, breath, darkness.

Holy crap.

That’s how I’d sum up Redemptive in two words.

A couple weeks ago I reviewed Jay McLean’s Combative. (You can find my review here.) It ended with one of those cliffhangers that had me pounding my fists demanding the next book. I needed more. There were so many unanswered questions.

While I still feel like I’m in the dark on most things, what I did learn BLEW MY MIND. It completely changed everything I thought I knew from Combative. I wanted to know more about Nate DeLuca. Jay McLean answered.

Nate wasn’t who I thought he was. Well he was, but he wasn’t. I can’t even begin to explain it to you. I was wary of the Nate I met in Combative. I just knew he was going to cause problems. The Nate I met in Redemptive was someone I adored. It confused the heck out of me! I didn’t know what to do with the two versions of him in my head.

And Bailey. I don’t even know what to say about Bailey. I felt for the poor girl.

Jay McLean has done an amazing job of messing with my head with this series. And I’m not complaining at all. I LOVED it. I can’t wait for the third book. I can’t even imagine what’s in store for everyone next.

Review: Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma

7600924Title: Forbidden

Author: Tabitha Suzuma

Publication Date: May 27, 2010

Publisher: Definitions

Genre:New Adult, Contemporary Romance

Goodreads Synopsis:

She is pretty and talented – sweet sixteen and never been kissed. He is seventeen; gorgeous and on the brink of a bright future. And now they have fallen in love. But… they are brother and sister.

Seventeen-year-old Lochan and sixteen-year-old Maya have always felt more like friends than siblings. Together they have stepped in for their alcoholic, wayward mother to take care of their three younger siblings. As defacto parents to the little ones, Lochan and Maya have had to grow up fast. And the stress of their lives—and the way they understand each other so completely—has also also brought them closer than two siblings would ordinarily be. So close, in fact, that they have fallen in love. Their clandestine romance quickly blooms into deep, desperate love. They know their relationship is wrong and cannot possibly continue. And yet, they cannot stop what feels so incredibly right. As the novel careens toward an explosive and shocking finale, only one thing is certain: a love this devastating has no happy ending.

Forbidden is probably the hardest book I have ever reviewed. I wish I could say I loved this book, but I can’t. The subject matter was just too disturbing and taboo to be enjoyable to read. What I can say is that it was beautifully written. Only an exceptionally talented writer could deliver a story so brutally wrong and still have you empathizing with its characters.

I felt sympathy for every character in this book. My heart went out to them. Despite their flaws, I loved them. There were so many wrongs committed to each of them on so many levels. I wanted happy endings for them all. Mostly, I wanted to be able to forgive Maya and Lochan their actions, but I couldn’t. It was frustrating and devastating because there could never be a happy ending for them. There could never be an ending that would be completely satisfying to me. What I was left with at the end of Forbidden was a deep sadness. It’s a book that will stick with me for a very long time to come.

You probably noticed there are no stars on this review. I honestly couldn’t come up with a rating. How do you rate a story which makes you super uncomfortable, but love the characters? I haven’t been able to figure it out. Would I suggest reading it? That depends entirely on the reader.

Release Day Blast & Review: His to Guard by Elizabeth Reyes

htg-release

We’re so excited to be celebrating the release of Elizabeth Reyes’ HIS TO GUARD – Isaiah’s story is finally here! Fall in love with the forbidden in HIS TO GUARD, available now!

HisToGuardFinalAbout HIS TO GUARD

Even if you’ve given up, it doesn’t mean your heart ever does.

With her life in danger, Raquel Santana had just begun to blend into the sleepy little town she’d escaped to, to start over. Now her father’s non-negotiable plan to protect her could ruin everything. After adamantly refusing to have someone watch over her, she finally relents.

Only nothing can prepare her for who arrives at her doorstep.

Finding out the beautiful woman Isaiah Romero is assigned to guard is someone he has a sizzling past with—someone he’s never been able to forget—should’ve been a good thing. But when that woman is someone who a)he’d never trust with his heart again and b)completely off limits to him forever now, his loyalties are tested.

When the forbidden becomes His to Guard . . .restraint becomes a torment.

Despite the attraction he’s surprised he still feels for her and the inevitable sexual tension he knows he’ll have to endure, Isaiah is adamant about one thing: even unwritten rules should never be broken—until they are.

Author’s note: Welcome to the Fate series! Each book in the bestselling series is a stand-alone love story following a new couple. There is no need to read the others to keep up with any of the stories. But you’ll enjoy reading each title and seeing familiar faces make appearances.

Get a Peek at HIS TO GUARD

Isaiah wasn’t even all the way down the back door steps when he nearly gave himself whiplash doing a double take. For a moment, he had the insane idea that maybe he’d done so much thinking of Kelli in the last month he was beginning to see her face where it wasn’t. It couldn’t be her. Why would she be here? He peered at her, still not a hundred percent sure it was her. Then she smiled as she said something to his sister Emi, who she was sitting next to. It was definitely her and his heartbeat sped up. He’d never forget that smile. It almost made him smile as well, but he still felt too stunned.

Was it possible she was a friend of Emi’s? Or was Kelli here for him? Other possibilities raced through his mind as he took a couple more steps down the porch into his uncle’s backyard, where family and friends were gathered. She sat there continuing her chat with his sister. Just like everyone else in attendance, she appeared as laid back without a care in the world. Then their eyes met and locked, and her sitting up straight with a jolt said it all. She hadn’t come here for him. Kelli was as stunned to see him here as he was to see her.

“Sai,” Nathan said breaking Isaiah from his thoughts. “I was beginning to wonder where you were.”

Isaiah glanced at him, taking the beer Nathan handed him. Before he could ask about Kelli, his brother smiled big, turning in her direction. “Check this out.” He started in Kelli’s direction. “There’s someone here I want you to meet.”

Isaiah followed him as the wheels in his head spun wildly. The tiniest of hopes that maybe she was there for him were squashed the moment their eyes had met. Kelli still hadn’t taken her eyes off him and Isaiah could feel in his gut this wasn’t going to be a happy reunion. He turned to his brother, who was smiling a bit too big, even as he brought his beer bottle to his lips. That’s when he noticed it. The twinkle in his brother’s eyes and how overdressed he was for Manny’s backyard shindig. It felt almost as if things slowed and they were walking in slow motion as he turned to back to Kelli. She, too, was a bit overdressed for a backyard gathering. Were they on a date?

Overwhelmed with panic, Isaiah gulped. He felt too dazed to come up with even a single excuse why he might need to make a mad dash back into his uncles’ house and back out the front door so he could get the hell out of there. More than anything the pain was back and it was even more brutal now.

Emi, who still sat with Kelli, leaned in and said something, motioning in Isaiah and Nathan’s direction. Kelli’s eyes widened in what appeared to be the same horror Isaiah was feeling. Emi very likely had just let Kelli in on who he was—Nathan’s brother. Obviously, she hadn’t had a clue whose brother she was now dating. Was it possible she might’ve been seeing Nathan before the weekend she spent with Isaiah just last month? Was that why, even after the unexpected amazing connection Isaiah thought they’d had, she’d blown him off like she had?

Nathan rarely brought girls to meet the family, let alone small intimate gatherings like this one where even more extended family would be . . . unless he was finally serious about one. Fuck.

What felt like the longest walk of his life finally came to an end when they reached her. Like a deer caught in headlights, Kelli continued to stare at him, appearing completely stunned.

“Sai,” Nathan said with that same twinkle in his eye. “This is my girl, Kelli Santana.”

ARC Review

4 / 5 Stars

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Elizabeth Reyes’ novels, she is the author of several great romance series. His to Guard is the sixth book in the Fate series. The Fate series is a spin-off of The Moreno Brothers series. You don’t have to read the rest of these series prior to reading His to Guard, but there are some characters and situations from the previous books.

In His to Guard, Isaiah Romero meets Kelli in a bar. After an amazing weekend together, they go their separate ways. All Isaiah has of Kelli from that weekend are steamy memories and her phone number. Too bad she won’t answer his texts.

Then, out of nowhere, Isaiah runs into Kelli…at his family function…as his brother Nathan’s date. (This isn’t really spoiler-ish. It’s mentioned in book 5, Rage.) Isaiah is devastated. He thought they shared a connection, but he won’t have anything to do with his brother’s woman. Luckily, Kelli soon moves and Isaiah never has to see her again.

Until he shows up for his new private security job protecting “Raquel”. As hard as he tries, Isaiah can’t avoid his feelings for Kelli.

I hate saying this because I love Elizabeth Reyes’ writing, but His to Guard started out a little rocky for me. It just didn’t flow well in the first chapter. I even went back and reread it after finishing the book to see if it was just me. It wasn’t. Luckily, it was just the first chapter that felt that way. The rest of the story flowed smoothly.

Once I got past the first chapter, I really enjoyed His to Guard. Isaiah was one of Reyes’ typical macho, jealous, overly protective heroes. He definitely made me swoon. Kelli was harder to read. She was a strong, intelligent woman, but I was almost as confused as Isaiah was over whether she was a liar or not. It was fun to be a little suspicious of her.

My favorite thing about His to Guard was getting to go back to scenes in Rage that were from A.J.’s view point Nathan, Kelli and Isaiah and find out what really happened. It added so much more to the story and it set up what was to come perfectly!

I don’t want to give too much away, but the only part of the story I didn’t care for was what happened to Isaiah toward the end of the story. It surprised me after what went on earlier in the book with his firefighter job. It just seemed like a lot to happen to one person in a book. I liked how it set up the ending (Which was PERFECT, by the way!), though.

Overall, I truly enjoyed being back in the Romero family’s world. His to Guard was a solid addition to the family. I would highly recommend any of The Moreno Brothers or the Fate series book to New Adult contemporary romance readers. I can’t wait to find out what is in store next for Isaiah’s brother, Nathan, in Uninvited!

4.5 / 5 Stars

Jay McLean shocked me with this intense story. I knew the writing was going to be great, it is Jay McLean after all. I just didn’t realize how different it was going to be from what I’ve read from her before.

I don’t want to give too much of the story away, but Combative is a story told from two different view points. The first is Ky. He’s just returned from four tours of duty and feels unworthy of still being alive. It’s gotten him into some trouble with the law, and now he’s stuck helping out the police to save himself from prison.

The second point of view is Madison’s. She just moved into Ky’s apartment building. She’s beautiful and Ky can’t stop himself from wanting her. Madison is kind of a mystery. She’s got some issues, but she keeps them a secret.

Ky and Madison try to keep things simple and friendly, but they can’t stop themselves from falling for each other. Soon, his feelings for Madison are distracting Ky from the job he’s meant to do.

I was sucked into mystery of Combative from the very beginning. I loved Ky and the sweetness he hid under his tough guy exterior. He was so good with Madison and her quirks. At times I wanted him to push her a little harder for information on her past, but I enjoyed the build up not having that information gave the story. Madison’s thoughts were confusing and intrigued me. I couldn’t wait to see where her storyline was headed.

I also loved the mystery surrounding the other characters in the book. I wanted to know who Nate DeLucca really was and what he was up to. I wanted to know what Jackson’s motives really were. All of the mystery around everyone was so suspenseful and intense. I was always slightly confused and excited to see what was going to happen next.

And the cliffhanger!!! Crazy! I need book 2 now!

Combative was an intriguing book filled with mystery, suspense and romance. Anyone who enjoys intense books shroud in secrecy will love this one.

Review: Stealing Parker by Miranda Kenneally

12551077Title: Stealing Parker

Series: Hundred Oaks, #2

Author: Miranda Kenneally

Publication Date: October 1, 2012

Publisher: Sourcefire Books

Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary Romance

Goodreads Synopsis:

Red-hot author Miranda Kenneally hits one out of the park in this return to Catching Jordan’s Hundred Oaks High.

Parker Shelton pretty much has the perfect life. She’s on her way to becoming valedictorian at Hundred Oaks High, she’s made the all-star softball team, and she has plenty of friends. Then her mother’s scandal rocks their small town and suddenly no one will talk to her.

Now Parker wants a new life.

So she quits softball. Drops twenty pounds. And she figures why kiss one guy when she can kiss three? Or four. Why limit herself to high school boys when the majorly cute new baseball coach seems especially flirty?

But how far is too far before she loses herself completely?

3 / 5 Stars

Since I read Miranda Kenneally’s Jesse’s Girl, I’ve been slowly trying to read the rest of the Hundred Oaks series. I love Kenneally’s feel good writing style. Her books always leave me feeling happy. I was hoping I would have the same experience with Stealing Parker. Unfortunately, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows.

There were so many incredible things in Stealing Parker. First, the characters. Parker Shelton is a girl who quits softball, loses weight and sets out to kiss as many boys as she can after her mom declares she’s a lesbian and moves out. Reading Parker’s point of view felt like reading the mind of a real teenager. Her experiences with parents, friends, boys, gossip and church were all real life experiences. Then, there’s Parker’s best friend, Drew. I loved Parker and Drew’s easy friendship and the way Drew supported Parker. I also loved that Parker understood Drew and put his feelings first. My favorite character, though, was Corndog. One, his name was Corndog. That’s a pretty awesome nickname and he does awesome stuff to live up to it. Two, he was surprisingly mature and sweet for his age. I loved Parker’s relationship with Will.

Stealing Parker didn’t just have great characters, though. It also dealt with some huge issues. Parker really resented her mom for leaving her and her family. She didn’t know how to handle her negative feelings towards her mom. Rather than deal with them, she avoided her mom.

Parker wasn’t just dealing with her mom being a lesbian and leaving her family, she was dealing with the fallout the situation created. Parker lost friends due to her mother’s actions and felt the need to recreate herself. She felt the need to hook up with as many boys as possible to prove she wasn’t like her mother. This didn’t help her friend situation.

Parker also struggled with her new found sexuality and what it meant in terms of her relationship with her church and God. Whether it was reconciling her experiences with her church and its member with her belief in God or dealing with her feelings about her lesbian mother, I felt like this was such a great topic to include in a Young Adult novel. So many of us grapple with faith, church and our actions as teenagers. Kenneally did an amazing job portraying this struggle. I loved how it all worked out for Parker.

There was one huge issues in Stealing Parker that I didn’t like at all: the student-teacher/coach relationship. I get that these relationships happen all of the time, but they’re incredibly uncomfortable to read. I cringed every time I had to read Brian and Parker’s interactions. I wasn’t happy with the way their “relationship” ended. I would have liked more accountability to their actions. Honestly, I didn’t see the need for this storyline in Stealing Parker. It would have been a better book without it. It’s what made Stealing Parker a 3 star book instead of a 5 star book.

Overall, I truly enjoyed Stealing Parker. I feel bad only giving it 3 stars because it is a well written book. I just can’t get past the icky vibe the student-teacher relationship gave it.

ARC Review: Carolina Dreaming by Virginia Kantra

25476077Title: Carolina Dreaming

Series: Dare Island, #5

Author: Virginia Kantra

Publication Date: February 2, 2016

Publisher: Berkley

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Goodreads Synopsis:

When it comes to love, anything can happen on Dare Island—especially in this latest novel from New York Times bestselling author Virginia Kantra.

After escaping a disastrous marriage, bakery owner Jane Clark has convinced herself that she has everything she needs—her precious son, a thriving business, and a roof over her head. But the arrival of a handsome stranger on the island shows her exactly what she’s been missing…

The only home Gabe Murphy ever had was the Marine Corps. He’s working hard to rebuild his life. It will take a special place, and a special woman, to make him want to stay.

Now Gabe is determined to prove that he’s worthy of Jane’s trust—and her love. But when her past reappears, that trust will be tested, and Jane and Gabe will have to fight hard to hold onto their love and make their dreams a reality…

4 / 5 Stars

I always enjoy reading books from the Dare Island series. Each of the books have a fun romance, but also deal with deeper issues. I was excited to read Carolina Dreaming to see what Virginia Kantra had in store for Jane, who I briefly met in Carolina Blues.

Carolina Dreaming was a sweet second chance love story of two people trying to move on from their rough pasts. Jane was ready for her second chance at love and was willing to put herself out there. She had more strength than I thought she would. I loved how thoughtful and kind she was to everyone. Gabe was a guy down on his luck. He was finally getting a chance to be the man he wanted to be. I loved that he gave up his plan of waiting for the right moment to fall in love and just went for it. They were perfect for each other.

I really enjoyed reading Carolina Dreaming. Virginia Kantra could not have created a better match for Jane than Gabe. Their romance was cute and the emotional strength they gained from each other was special. I also loved the side romance between Jane’s crotchety single dad and his dispatcher. The only complaint I have about Carolina Dreaming was the way it ended. The story felt real up until it wrapped up quickly and too perfectly.

**I received an electronic copy of Carolina Dreaming from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
